Did you know? [random xchat facts]
If you want to auto-remove files from the DCC windows when they are finished or aborted, you can /set dcc_remove 1. Great for file servers.

News for 2.8.7e (18/Jan/2009)

www.xchat.org/files/binary/win32/xchat-2.8.7e.exe

• Fixed a rare Auto-Nick-Completion (non-TAB key) crash.
• Fixed a possible crash if you clicked "Add to favourites" in the main text area, while the server-list window was open in the background.
• The setting added in the previous version: "/set -or gui_tweaks 64 will now turn OFF user list icons." will now properly remove the prefix character from the right-click menu.
• Added -on and -off parameters to the /SET command. This can be used to set bits, for example gui_tweaks.
• /set -or gui_tweaks 128 will now turn OFF the text attribute button.

The automated crash reporting feature is showing that it's getting very stable indeed. Many days go by without a single report, yet hundreds or thousands of copies are downloaded each day. I'm tipping this release to be the most solid yet.

Your copy is corrupted. Download from a reliable source (www.xchat.org) and install a virus scanner.

AVG Anti-Virus reports xchat.exe (v2.8.7e) as a "Potentially harmful program Dialer.NVT". I have reported the binary as a "false alarm" and sent it to AVG for further analysis.

EDIT:

I received an automated reply from AVG:

Quote:

"C:\Program Files\xchat\xchat.exe" - detection is correct

1. Correct detection

In case the file is detected correctly, it will not be removed from the AVG detection.

I just downloaded (again) from xchat.org and bitdefender detects Dialer.Generic.37751 malware. Please investigate.

Apparently Grisoft (makers of AVG) have realized the error of their ways.
