Changing Log locatio

Postby midnightskyeus » 21 Jul 2004 02:17

This may sound like a silly question, but...

I've spent the lat hour or so trying to change the location of the log file. I was wondering; how in the world DO I change?

For example:
I'm trying to change the location from my Application data file to my conversation file.

Same problem here.

I was trying to find the option/buttons/whatevers to change the Directory in which the logfiles are saved.... but... I couldn't find it?

At the moment xchat saves all the logfiles on C:\Documents and Settings\myname\Application Data\X-Chat 2\xchatlogs
I want it to save the logfiles to e.g. F:\Data\xchat\logs

I too would like to be able to save the location of my log files.
~/.xchat/xchatlogs is where they currently are under linux and I'd like to be able to put the files in another directory.
//edit// Duh, this is posted in the windows forum but hey, it's a feature us linux users want too!

There is a simple workaround on linux though, you could use a symlink
to ~/.xchat/xchatlogs

The problem with symlink is when you try to do something like this:
The first is a symlink.

[pizbit@Yogi:~]$ du -sh Documents/xchatlogs
0 Documents/xchatlogs
[pizbit@Yogi:~]$ du -sh .xchat2/xchatlogs/
132M .xchat2/xchatlogs
[pizbit@Yogi:~]$

Obviously you didn't read my edit in an earlier post.
Yes I realised, I check in here because I've had experiences with xchat under windows and you never know when I might be able to help out on a windows specific issue, also some things in here are OS inpdendent. (And really should be in the main xchat forum.) - Such as this thread.

[i'm a registered user and am using 2.4.3]

is the reason this question was never answered because it's not possible to change the log file location?

The X-Chat 2 data folder can be relocated to a more convenient location and the -d switch used in the Target: area of the desktop shortcut.

I relocated my data folder within the xchat folder itself on another drive; this is the 'Target:' line I use (modify for your own use):
Code: Select all
"E:\Program Files\xchat\xchat.exe" -d "E:\Program Files\xchat\X-Chat 2" /prefetch:1
