suggestions and things i've noticed about xchat

Discussion about the official XChat for Windows.

suggestions and thin

some suggestions for xchat:

but before i list them i'd like to say xchat has been a very good irc client and i'm proud to be using it. but here are a couple things that i feel are lacking or that i don't possibly understand.

1. the highlight color for the userlist is the highlight color for windows? it would be nice if this was customizable in the client itself. i say this because i like my windows highlight (selected) color to be black as well as my xchat background. so its a little disconcerting when selecting names from the userlist that i can't verify are correct.

2. if you right click in a channel window and select server->hide version the resulting checkmark doesn't coincide with the checkmark in the menu bar server->hide version

3. word highlights should be substrings? or maybe have some wildcards? this may just be my ignorance to configing xchat. i don't know.

4. also a small point: if you have a dcc chat open and try to close xchat it says you have a file transfer active and are you sure you want to exit. which is a perfectly valid alert, but not for dcc chats right?

just some trivial stuff i wanted to put on the table. thankyou for the great client.

Just addint something thats been slightly irritating me...

as a oper on a medium network and a online game admin I get ALOT of pm's (msg'es) notices, and so on. Everytime someone new pm's me, it auto goes to to that window, wich is annoying if I'm talking to someone else... ;)

Anyway, love xchat! :)

/set tab_new_to_front o
or Settings->Preferences->Tabs and uncheck "Pop new tabs to front"

doesn't anybody bother to look at preferences anymore?

Assuming you're using my (from xchat.org, not silverex's) build of xchat, here's an example of how to make the selection colour green:

Put this inside your C:\Program Files\XChat\gtkrc file:

Code: Select all
gtk-font-name="Sans 8"

style "abc"
{
   base[SELECTED] = "#00CC00"
   base[ACTIVE] = "#009900"
}

class "GtkTreeView" style "abc"
widget_class "*.GtkTreeView" style "abc"

There's some more info here: http://www.gtk.org/tutorial/sec-gtksrcfileformat.html

In my xchat (2.0.9) on win when I get a private message it is shown on the cannel window with the nick between ** instead of <>. Can I set it to show un a new tab? (I already written a plugin for that, but if it can be done via the program it's better...)

@#!@#!!!@#@

Isn't it a 'Preference'? That menu should offer at most a shortcut to those functions (IMHO).

Hey guys. Just found this forum, really glad to see this. X-Chat rules. :)

I use X-Chat on Windows and the big thing that bugged me was the problem where the clipboard wouldn't be released... but that got fixed. :)

Keep up the awesome work! :D
