Alternative to the new Win build, Probably not for everyone.

Discussion about the official XChat for Windows.

Alternative to the n

Quite some time ago I started making a script for mIRC that attempted to mimic Xchat in style and somewhat in functionality, as Xchat for Windows then wasn't quite as great as its Linux cousin.

This isn't exactly a shameless plug, but if you'd like it you can get it at:

http://www.mirc.net/projects.php?go=1063810842&get_desc=1

And as said in the subject, it probably isn't for everyone because it requires using a different client, just thought I'd post for anyone who's interested or upset about the new Windows licensing scheme or whatever.

Anyway, post some replies/suggestions and I'll probably start releasing it again, and have fun.

I made an update to the Xchat Clone script, it now includes an Xchat-like topicbar and nicklist, added a "color nicks" options, fixed a bunch of bugs and other miscellaneous stuff.

Go get it at the URL in the first post if you've got it before, or just get it anyway if you haven't. :p

have fun.

The point of xchat is to get away from mIRC, not closer!

And please donnot put links to anything for mIRC, because I don't think anyone cares for it..more like despises.

Cheers!

I'm not going to get in a flame war here, but I don't think you can speak for the entire Xchat for windows userbase. Your reason for using Xchat, such as despising mIRC, is your own, not everyone's.

And like I said before, the entire reason I started making the script at all was because the Windows version of Xchat at the time wasn't all that great at the time, and I missed not having Xchat when I was in Windows.

It's sort of the same situation now, because a perfectly good FREE client went shareware, and such a swift license change with all the legal implications attached to it just doesn't appeal to me.

So when I'm in windows, I'll use my script and mIRC. In Linux, I'll still use the free version of Xchat.

If you don't want it, don't get it, but don't tell me not to post an alternative for people who feel the same.

edit:
And I forgot to mention, it distinctly says "Probably not for everyone" in the name of the thread.

That too...but really I don't think people here care much about mIRC...

Cheers!

I am, while I appreciate your work, the whole idea for me is to get away from mIRC. Plus you still have to pay for mIRC after 30 days anyways. I'm really hoping these silverex builds start to get better.

It works for me too, although it could be improved. If theres a window on top of the xchat window, and the xchat window scrolls, it distorts.
