Problem with Tor+XChat

Postby TorUser » 26 Mar 2011 13:55

I'm trying to get Tor working with the Freenode network.

I have followed information from two guides and tried many changes to get tor+freenode to work.

https://trac.torproject.org/projects/to ... ilc#X-Chat
http://freenode.net/irc_servers.shtml#tor

Code: Select all
»» Looking up 10.40.40.40
»» Looking up 127.0.0.1
»» Connecting to 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1) port 9050...
»» Connected. Now logging in...
»» *** Looking up your hostname...
»» *** Checking Ident
»» *** Got Ident response
»» *** Couldn't look up your hostname
SASL is supported but there is no authentication information set for this network().
CLICAP: supported by server: identify-msg multi-prefix sasl
 CLICAP: requesting: multi-prefix identify-msg
 CLICAP: now enabled: multi-prefix identify-msg
»» *** Notice -- You need to identify via SASL to use this server
»» Closing Link: gateway/tor-sasl/account (SASL access only)
»» Disconnected (Remote host closed socket).

I have a perl script mentioned at the torproject wiki loaded. I also tried a python one cap_sasl_xchat.py from http://freenode.net/sasl/

Code: Select all
➜  .xchat2  ls *sasl*
cap_sasl_xchat.pl  sasl.auth
➜  .xchat2

Sorry, I wanted a more detailed post, but I wrote a long detailed thread, and then hit the submit button. I had to re-login to this forum, and then everything I typed was lost.

You need to run this command.
/sasl set freenode <yournick> <yourpass> PLAIN

Then reconnect. The "freenode" in the above command must match the name you have set in XChat->Network List(ctrl+s), case does not matter. The nick should be the primary nick for the account if you have multiple nicks linked together.
