Disconnected (Remote

Postby ottoshmidt » 21 Jan 2010 11:52

I can't login and receive this infinite messages:

Code: Select all
 Looking up irc.freenode.net
* Connecting to chat.freenode.net (130.237.188.200) port 6667...
* Connected. Now logging in...
* Disconnected (Remote host closed socket).
 Cycling to next server in FreeNode...
* Disconnected ().
* Looking up irc.freenode.net
* Connecting to chat.freenode.net (130.237.188.200) port 6667...
* Connected. Now logging in...

would that be caused because of listen port not being forwarded of something?

The server is listening to the port, not you, so you wouldn't need to port forward anything. It is possible a firewall is interfering, and if so, you may be able to connect on an alternate port, which you can specify on the network list. Freenode listens on ports 6665, 6666, 6667, 7000, 7070, 8000, 8001, and 8002 (and then on SSL ports after the ircd upgrade).

#xchat just had another user deal with an issue that has the same symptoms, if it is the same issue or not, I cannot tell, because ottoshmidt has not provided any information on the working environment.

For the user in channel, the problem showed up on Silverex on a Windows 7 64 bit machine, and it turned out that by uninstalling CA Anti Virus, the user could connect to the server. I believe such a drastic step isn't needed, possibly just disabling some real time checking or similar, but it may be worth looking into.
