Console interface to

Is there a console (e.g. ncurses) interface to X-Chat (like how there's a finch for pidgin)? Alternatively, is there a program that is completely compatible with X-Chat prefs and log file formats?

The thing is, I like to leave X-Chat running from my server rather than my laptop for a number of reasons (uninterrupted presence, centralized logging, etc.), but I don't particularly enjoy having to VNC/NX in, esp. as the server is located across the country. SSH would be preferable.

If there is no such alternative interface, have any others been in this situation and have tips to offer? Is there anything like an "IRC proxy" that provides these features which folks recommend? Thanks in advance!

You can compile xchat-text with a little bit of effort using ./configure parameters, however it is a very minimal interface and not suitable for anything other than as a bot or logging platform (and even then, that is debatable). You could however setup a bouncer/proxy such as bip or psyBNC, then have xchat-text inside of a dtach or screen session connected to the proxy.

When I say minimal, I mean it doesn't have a method of distinguishing in which context a message is displayed (it all just goes to the main screen) and doesn't handle file transfers. But you could still have this running while your main client isn't connected.
