Official Mac OS X aq

Postby John Musbach » 15 May 2008 21:44

The XChat Aqua project is dead, as such I would like to request that in addition to the windows build, a official mac os x aqua build is maintained as well. If you agree with me, please vote via poll.

The problem is that the purpose of X-Chat Aqua was to provide a front end to XChat using the Cocoa API, where as XChat uses GTK (or variations). This would mean maintaining two completely separate interfaces.

Now there is the ability to use GTK without X11, using the newish project Gtk+ Mac OS X, but as I am only an occasional OS X user (so far from even a developer), I don't know how well this works.

Regardless, XChat is primarily developed by one person, so it is a bit much to ask that a build for OS X be maintained, regardless of if Zed has a Mac or not.

X-Chat Aqua project is dead for ages now. Oficial X-Chat developers should consider a Mac OS X version, as there are many users who'd love to use X-Chat on their Macs.

http://xchataqua.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/xchataqua/ last change was 2 weeks ago so it's not entirely dead

I am windows developer that is moving over to OS X. I would like to maintain the X-Chat Aqua build. If anyone has any information or direction, please contact me.

Thanks.

Old post but let's bump it up...

Why doesn't the Xchat developer make a OSX binary?

We have Windows and Linux already, why not a binary for OSX?

THANKS

P.S. I know about fink, macports and homebrew and could careless to go down that road, I just want to download a binary, dump it into the Applications and be on my merry way... ;)

I have been using the dead 2006 version for awhile but i would like to see some updates. As long as my current build (old build) doesn't break I'm fine.
I got some bugs too that i found with my version.

Anyways I'm willing to Beta Test on OSX 10.6.8 or 11 maybe even throw out a small donation pay if we need some pay to help.

I hate to point this out too, but i am willing to buy xchat on OSX like how you do with the windows build if it comes to that. I used xchat on linux for years and i cant use anything else quite like xchat. Don't let Colloquy beat you guys.

But for the time being ill have to make do with the 06 version or find away to upgrade.

Maybe if you donate me a Mac Book Pro

I Can donate you a Ibook G4 with linux install and a new battery and charger but i am keeping my MacBook Pro until the day even linux or windows wont run on it.
