I think that's a very worrying answer from the lead developer for a whole range of reasons.

Golden rule? ... The idea is to improve things, especially in usability, even if it causes short term pain for a few users.

Did you make the same complaint for Firefox? It has the close button in the same place.

same place

not in any version of firefox i use - also, firefox is very very configurable - for instance i always install tabx to put the tab close button on every tab WHERE IOT BELONGS!

how about you not mess with user preferences without giving said users the ability to put things right again - remember, in X there is a pecking order....

1: USER FIRST
2: window manager second
3 *****APPLICATION LAST*****

other than this, i should point out that xchat is about the only irc client worth using :)

not trying to make war, just trying to have you not mess with an interface that WAS almost perfect.

ok the reason the close button on the tab is not in the same place in firefox as it is in xchat i because i arrange my tabs vertically on the left in xchat - so errr yea it IS in the same place lol but as previously state firefox has tabx and friends.

References to where anything is in a Firefox loaded with mods has to be discounted; only the standard (default) Firefox settings can be taken into account.

There's a right click menu for a reason also.

Did I miss something? In Firefox, the close button is in the upper right corner.
In XChat, it's in the lower right corner - behind the FVWM pager.

in what way does the fact that i can modify the firefox user interface to MY PREFERENCES not count?

why the hell did you even move the thing, there was NOTHING wrong wioth where it was, in fact there was everything RIGHT about it!

all im asking for is to have the option !

I440r: Everything "was right about it" according to you and you only!

You could cutomise your XChat by patching it if you so desire; I guess that would stop your whingeing.

ok, that answer was just a little abusive, and your "if you dont like it go fix it yourself" attitude also leaves alot to be desired.
