Windows Media Player 10 is available with Windows XP Service Pack 2 only! So, as Windows Media Player 9 is redundant, nothing to bother with David007.
I really have no idea why the plug-in does not work on Win2K. The DLL and ActiveX control (.OCX) are high enough versions that they should include the new version 7 interfaces. I will try and install Windows Media Player 9 on another computer and see if the plug-in works under Windows XP with WMP9.

I have modified the plug-in to go to the system tray when closed. It still minimizes to the title bar, but that seems to be standard behavior for applications. You can download it at the usual place: WMPA 1.0.2
