New plugin: Windows Media Player Announcer

Discussion about Perl, TCL or Python scripts and C/C++ plugins (using and writing them).

How do you like the new Windows Media Player Announcer plug-in for XChat-2?

I love it! Finally, I can announce my songs without installing WinAMP!

I hate it! Who uses Windows Media Player?

It's alright, but why does it create that annoying dialog?

Windows Media Player 10 is available with Windows XP Service Pack 2 only! So, as Windows Media Player 9 is redundant, nothing to bother with David007. :)

I really have no idea why the plug-in does not work on Win2K. The DLL and ActiveX control (.OCX) are high enough versions that they should include the new version 7 interfaces. I will try and install Windows Media Player 9 on another computer and see if the plug-in works under Windows XP with WMP9.

I have modified the plug-in to go to the system tray when closed. It still minimizes to the title bar, but that seems to be standard behavior for applications. You can download it at the usual place: WMPA 1.0.2

Okies... 1st: The plugin works perfectly in Win2k with WMP 9. My friend neglected to mention they didn't have any Media Player playlists setup. LOL

2nd: Being able to close the window either whilst playing or not is great! Nice and tidy. Excellent work. :)

PS: Sorry for the WMP 9 muckup. My friend is a French speaker and I guess we lost some information in the translation.

A bug? Have noticed that every now and then the song actually being played is not the one being displayed ie. the highlighted song is the one that should be playing but instead it's the one before that. It appears to get out of sync and unloading/loading the plugin seems to fix it (not sure how permanently). :)

Well I just tried it its good. But why can't we use our external wmp instead?

Because that internal one you can't open new songs etc Its very strict.

Yeah why does it not work with the external wmp? Can´t you fix this Problem? The internal one doesn´t have a shuffle function and it does not have the great extras of wmp 11!

: D its Great! but there is one thing, could you possibly make it so it plays songs at random? Also some of the songs are out of order when you try to play them.

I only host the file because the original website no longer exists (from memory).

This is archive.org 's archive of the page, and it includes the source zip file, as well as the compiled version and minor documentation.

Enjoy.
